Wilmington College Community Summer Theatre to Present 'The Drowsy Chaperone'

Cast Selected for July Production

June 4, 2014

Wilmington College/Community Summer Theatre announces a cast of nearly two-dozen actors for the musical, The Drowsy Chaperone, to be presented July 17, 18 and 19, at 7:30 p.m., and July 20, at 2:30 p.m., in Hugh G. Heiland Theatre.

Billed as a “comedy within a musical,” The Drowsy Chaperone is under the direction of summer theatre veteran Cherie Cooper-Darragh.

The cast includes: Man-in-chair, Bryan Wallingford; Mrs. Tottendale, Tricia Heys; Underling, Steven F. Haines; Robert Martin, Timothy Larrick; George: Cole Haugh; Feldzeig, Matt Purkey; Kitty, Tonja Ruther; Gangster #1, Chris Carter; Gangster #2, Jessica Cunigan; Adolfo, Tim Brausch.

Also, Janet Van De Graaff, Gina L. Beck; The Drowsy Chaperone, Mary Alexander; Trix the Aviatrix, Claudia W. Fowler, Superintendant, Bekah Muchmore; and an ensemble comprised of: Mary Rizzardi, Matty Harrison, Alexia Minton, Victoria Martini, Andrew Conarroe, Gary Smith and Tevin Amburgy.

In addition to Cooper-Darragh as director, the show features Wynn Alexander’s set design with lighting design by Becky Haines, as well as Cole Haugh’s choreography, musical direction by Matt Spradlin and Amy Grey serving as assistant musical director.

With the houselights down, the show begins with a man in a chair that plays his favorite record, the cast recording of a fictitious 1928 musical. The recording comes to life with the cast of characters traveling through his apartment.

Throw in two lovers on the eve of their wedding, a bumbling best man, a desperate theater producer, a not-so-bright hostess and her very proper, yet sarcastic butler, two gangsters posing as pastry chefs, a misguided Don Juan, a ditsy show girl, the intoxicated chaperone of the bride and chorus folks — and “you have a show soup dense with delicious delight.”

Tickets and reservations are available by contacting the Theatre Box Office weekdays, from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m., at (937) 382-6661 ext. 267.
