Jenna Parlette Running Center
Jenna Parlette, was passionate about life and put forth a maximum effort in everything she did. Three of the things she was most passionate about were running, her friends and teammates, and being a student-athlete at Wilmington College. Jenna was leading the race in the 2013 season’s initial cross-country meet in Indiana when she collapsed within sight of the finish line. Sadly, she never regained consciousness and died several days later.
The College plans to begin construction this summer of the Center for Sport Sciences, a beautiful facility designed for WC’s nationally renowned program in athletic training and potential expansion into other allied health fields, in addition to several commercial sports medicine-related entities. It also will feature an indoor turf field and amenities that will help accommodate student-athletes’ training, including that of track and field. However, current plans do not include an indoor track.
Jenna’s mother, Lisa Parlette, is driven by her dream that an indoor track will be built as Phase II of WC’s Center for Sport Sciences. The goal of raising $8 million for a track would be realized through private and corporate gifts and sponsorships.
“The Jenna Parlette Running Center would accomplish something very dear to Jenna’s heart — bringing people together in community and competition,” Lisa said, “Jenna would love this idea because running and competing were so important to her. I love the idea because this enduring part of her legacy will continue to touch and inspire others for many, many years.”
