Wilmington College’s equestrian team enjoyed its most successful competition in recent years when it won the Western show at Ohio University Southern earlier this month. The team brought home the Reserve High Point Team award for its highest finish since 2007.

The team’s new coach, Jenny Riddle, manager of the Equine Center, said WC is fielding a talented group of equestrian competitors.

“They have been working so hard this semester and it’s nice to see it paying off,” Riddle said, noting she is looking forward to this spring’s regional and national competitions. “I believe this is only the start of what’s to come — not only for the team, but for the entire equine program.”

Junior Julie Peters and senior Stacey Volkman led the team by taking a first and second place between the competition’s two shows. Some other 14-team members “followed suit” by taking third through sixth places,” Riddle said.

WC’s equine team is comprised of 21 members and competes in both Hunt and Western seats. Riddle noted the team shows against such schools as Ohio State University, Miami University, Ohio University Southern, Otterbein University and Ohio Wesleyan University.
