Wilmington College Theatre will present the musical Edges Nov. 21, 22 and 23, at 7:30 p.m., in Hugh G. Heiland Theatre.
The production is under the direction of Wynn Alexander, with Timothy Larrick providing musical direction; Lois Hock, set and lighting design; and Beck Haines, sound.
Alexander said Edges is not a traditional musical.
Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, then theatre undergraduates at the University of Michigan, wrote a song cycle about coming-of-age, growth and self-discovery.
“It’s a show about 20-something, burgeoning adults asking classic coming-of-age questions,” he said, noting that characters deal with confronting emotions, escaping expectations and deciphering complicated relationships. The show is intended for mature audiences.
“Beyond its youthful appeal, the show is a compelling and emotive ride that gets audiences of all ages reflecting on their younger years – where mistakes define who you became, love seemed to last forever and reality hadn’t hit yet,” he added.
Edges is designed to be full of heart, humanity and humor; its pop-culture references, themes of change and freakishly familiar situations are universal and something that everyone can relate to.
The show’s most famous song, “Be My Friend,” has become commonly known as “The Facebook Song.”
The cast includes: Joshua Beck, Kylee Bristoll, Victoria Canby, Phoebe Davis, Nick Hutson, Ryan Macella, Megan McDonough, Bekah Muchmore, Ellen Short and Kevin Wall.
