Quaker Heritage Center Presenting 'We Travel to Learn' Exhibit

Gallery Exhibit Highlights the Far-Reaching Isaac Harvey Fund

March 21, 2013

The Meriam R. Hare Quaker Heritage Center at Wilmington College is hosting an exhibit of images highlighting the work of the Isaac Harvey Fund through Aug. 5.

The Isaac Harvey Fund has assisted Wilmington College students and faculty in traveling abroad and within the U.S. on trips related to the concerns of Quakers – mainly peace and social justice.

QHC curator Ruth Brindle Dobyns said many persons possess a multitude of reasons for travel.

“We travel to explore, for adventure, to see the sights and to experience the new. We go on journeys, pilgrimages and vacations,” she said. “Here, at Wilmington College, we travel for all those reasons — and more. We travel to help our world and to change ourselves for the better.

“We travel to learn.”

The exhibit is a multimedia, multi-platform depository of memories, photographs and items from individuals who have traveled for service and education with the assistance of the Isaac Harvey Fund.

“The Quaker Heritage Center is the crossroads in which the past and future recipients’ travels and deeds meet,” Dobyns said. “Just as the students and their travels are diverse, the blank walls of the QHC have been transformed into a diverse living collage.”

The exhibit is open weekdays, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and through special arrangements made with the curator.
