Student Government Association (SGA)

It is the responsibility of Wilmington College's SGA to serve as the representative voice of the student population; to encourage understanding and respect for the Quaker tradition of peace, service, and inner direction; to recognize and aid worthy student organizations; and to promote pride in the College. The SGA seeks to serve all the students' desires for improved student services and academic programs, as well as to promote honest and open communications among students, faculty, administrators, and staff. The SGA Steering Committee is also responsible for the allocation of the student activity fee. All registered and enrolled students of Wilmington College main campus are members of the Student Government Association.
Any member of the SGA has the right to present a concern or grievance in accordance with the SGA Bylaws (Article I,Section I). Any member of SGA has the right to appeal a decision in accordance with the SGA Bylaws (Article I, Section II).
The SGA Board meets every Tuesday afternoon at 5:00 p.m.in the SGA office. All students, faculty, and staff are welcome to attend.
2013-2014 Steering Committee Members
Jamie is a junior from Waynesville, Ohio majoring in Middle Childhood Education with a concentration in both math and science. While she is not in the SGA office or the classroom, she spends her time actively involved as a Community Advisor for the college-owned apartments, a tutor for students both on and off campus, the Leadership chair for Kappa Delta sorority, and a member of the Honors program, as well as serving on numerous college boards. In addition to her commitments at the college, she is a children’s ministry intern at CrossView Christian Church. When she finds free time, she enjoys running, cooking, fishing, and photography.
Nate is a senior Chemistry and Education major. When he is not extending the boundaries of scientific discovery or educating our youth, Nate enjoys watching baseball, particularly his favorite team, the Cincinnati Reds. He is involved in Faith in Action which strives to serve the community. He also enjoys running on the track team where he has blazed his way to All Conference honors in multiple events. Nate enjoys traveling to exotic countries, playing sports, and spending time outdoors with friends and family in his free time.
Morgan Leigh Smith is a Senior Communication Arts Major from Parkersburg, West Virginia. Throughout her time at Wilmington College, Morgan has been involved in Faith in Action, the Honors Program, theatre productions, Kappa Delta Sorority, and The Witness. Morgan is also an avid songwriter, a small group leader for her church's youth program, and has appeared in several television commercials local to her hometown. Upon graduating in December, Morgan hopes to begin a career in either the Public Relations or Journalism field.
Corbin is a Business Administration Major with a minor in Ag Business. He grew up on a dairy farm in Celina, Ohio, and enjoys going home, hanging out with family and friends, and working with the cows. He is currently a member of the Wilmington College Swim Team, the Water Polo club, Faith in Action, and, of course, SGA. He also works for the IT department, and as a business statistics SI instructor. When he finds the time, he thoroughly enjoys reading books, drumming along with his brother's guitar playing, and working on his old Honda motorcycle.
Bekah Muchmore is a Communications major with an emphasis in Public Relations and Journalism and also has Music minor. She is the President of Delta Omega Theta and has been in the sorority since her freshmen year. She is also the Vice President of Order of Omega along with being a member of the Educational Theatre Company and a member of the Wilmington College Chorale. She is also a member of the Student Life committee, a Peer Advisor for the 2013-2014 Freshmen class (GO Group Q), and a member of the Wilmington College Honors Program. She loves being in theatre productions and staying active here at Wilmington College while representing her senior class as the Homecoming Queen!
Louis is a sophomore from Detroit, MI. His major is Communications with concentrations in public relations and journalism. He also has a minor in theatre. His on campus activities include SGA, Secretary/Publicity chair for the Service Leaders Executive Board, Resident Assistant, Active Member of the Educational Theater Company, and Student Ambassador for the Admissions office. In his spare time, Louis loves to hang out with good friends, play dodge ball and capture the flag as well actively participating in the annual Nerf war on campus. Louis also loves singing, acting, and getting to interact with other people.
Ellen Short is an Environmental Sustainability major pursuing a career in water conservation. Her hometown is Middletown, Ohio where she attends the Oaks Community Church. She is VP of Faculty, Alumni, and Trustees at Wilmington College. Apart from holding an officer position for Student Government, Ellen is a Resident Assistant and a member of the Honor's Program. She is an active member on campus and an advocate for social and political justice with a lot of help from the Issac Harvey Fund. She is also a member of Kappa Delta sorority, an active member of Wilmington College's theater department, and a volunteer barista at Sugartree's Joe's Java.
