First Year Connections
First Year Connections (FYC) is a program to aid first-time freshmen in the transition from high school to college life. FYC was created in the Fall of 2007 as a retention aid to campus, after citing many of the struggles of first year students. All first-year students are immersed in this program from day one with no extra charges or added fees. The First-Year Connections program bridges the learning opportunities from within the classroom to the living environments, whether the student is commuting or living on campus. This program is implemented through Student Affairs and works closely with Housing and Residence Life and Academic Affairs. The GA for First-Year Connections (FYC) serves the Austin-Pickett community as a Resident Director, living in the building and working with the Residence Life Staff to foster the growth of the residents. The FYCC hosts bi-weekly programs through the LIGHT Series; these programs can be educational, intentional, related to living away from home, dealing with roommate issues, getting involved on campus, and many more.
