Marlaina Leppert-Wahl, Associate Professor of Political Science to Faculty, holds an MA in International Affairs (1990) from the George Washington University, an MA (2001) and a Ph.D. in Political Science (2014) from the University of Cincinnati. Marlaina regularly teaches Wilmington College’s First Year Experience Seminar: The Individual in a Global Society, Senior Global Seminar: The Middle East, Social Sciences Capstone: Cases in Genocide, and Topics in Political Science.
She has recently developed a Political Simulation course, preparing and traveling with students to participate in the Ohio Valley Regional Model Arab League. She incorporates many other off-campus learning opportunities into her courses including regular visits to the Holocaust and Humanity Education Center, the Islamic Center of Greater Cincinnati, National Underground Railroad Freedom Center, Ft. Ancient American Indian Museum, and the Ohio Statehouse. She often invites guest speakers to her classes. Students learn directly from public officials, representatives from nongovernmental organizations, and Holocaust survivors.
Marlaina also integrates service learning into courses, challenging students to learn more about global issues and empowering them to find creative solutions to poverty, human rights, or environmental issues.
Marlaina serves on Cincinnati’s Bridges of Faith Trialogue, a Jewish-Muslim-Christian alliance promoting interfaith and intercultural understanding. Her research interests include nonviolent direct action and human rights issues.
