Chi Alpha

Chi Alpha stands for “Christ’s ambassador” in Greek. We are a christian organization located on more than 300 campuses throughout the U.S.A. and the world. Chi Alpha originated at Missouri State University in 1953. We carry God within us so that we may bring him closer to the people around us.

We are a movement of college age men and women earnestly following Jesus. Our mission is to reconcile students to Christ, equipping them through a spirit-filled community of prayer, worship, fellowship, discipleship, and mission to transform the university, the marketplace, and the world.

Our Name

In the Bible, the Apostle Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 5:20, "We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making His appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf, be reconciled to God." Inspired by this verse we chose the phrase "christou apostoloi," meaning "Christ's sent ones," to represent who we are. The Greek letters Chi (X) and Alpha (A) are the initials of this phrase, which reminds us that we should live to reflect Jesus' life.

Our name is our constant reminder that each of us has a real part to play in this world. We each can carry Him within us to bring Him closer to the people around us.
