Alma Maters Include Columbia, Berkeley, Texas A&M and Penn State
Wilmington College is beginning the 2017-18 academic year with 11 new faculty members on its roster.
Each brings a unique skill set, background and experience to his or her respective position as the new faculty members begin their teaching duties. They include:
Allen Beatty, assistant professor of accounting; Dr. Brianna Matzke, visiting assistant professor of music; Don Muchmore, visiting assistant professor of mathematics; Dr. Matthew Bliss, director/assistant professor of exercise science; Dr. Mark Chrisman, visiting assistant professor of chemistry; Dr. Jeradi Cohen, associate professor of education; Susan Lucas, assistant professor of marketing; J. Brett Massie, associate professor of athletic training. Also, Dr. Daryl Nash, visiting assistant professor of agriculture (animal science and production management); Dr. Keith Orejel, assistant professor of history; and Virginia Thomas, assistant professor of psychology.
Allen Beatty is no stranger to WC as he has been an adjunct instructor who, last year, headed the College’s acclaimed VITA, IRS-certified tax preparation service featuring students conducting the work free-of-charge. Beatty, who comes to WC from Rio Grande, has a Bachelor of Science degree in finance and management from Franklin University and a master’s degree in taxation from Capital University Law School.
Brianna Matzke also has been an adjunct instructor at the College. A classical pianist, she holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Kansas and a Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Cincinnati-Conservatory of Music.
Don Muchmore actually began teaching math at the College, either part time or as a visiting faculty member, in 1978. The WC alumnus retired from Little Miami School District in 2009 after a 36-year career teaching mathematics.
Matthew Bliss joins WC from Texas A&M University-Kingsville and has a Bachelor of Science degree in nutrition and sports nutrition from Mansfield University and both a Master of Arts and Ph.D. in exercise physiology from Kent State University.
Mark Chrisman completed his doctorate at the University of Cincinnati, where he received the Henry Hochstetter Prize for excellence in teaching. He earned his undergraduate degree from Wilmington College.
Susan Lucas, also a WC alumna, has a Master of Business Administration degree from Tiffin University and has been on the faculty at Heidelberg and Mount Union universities. She also has experienceas the director of marketing and public relations for Alliance Community Hospital, PR director for Hanover Health care and executive director for Early Childhood Educational Alliance.
Brett Massie brings teaching experience as a result of being on the athletic training faculties of Cincinnati, Xavier and Miami universities, the latter for which he served as AT program director. He is president of Sport Education Abroad and has experience as an athletic trainer for Angeline Physical and Aquatic Therapy.
Daryl Nash, another WC alumnus, holds both a Master of Science and Ph.D. in animal science with a focus inquantitative genetics from Penn State University. He was a postdoctoral research associate at Iowa State University and was on the agriculture faculty at Ferrum College in Virginia.
Keith Orejel comes to WC from the University of Missouri-Columbia, where he completed a postdoctoral training fellowship in American history. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from the University of California, Berkeley, and his Ph.D. and master’s in history are from Columbia University.
Virginia Thomas comes to WC from the University of California, Santa Cruz, where she had been teaching while completing the dissertation for her Ph.D. in developmental psychology. She has a master’s degree in depth psychology from Sonoma State University and a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology from the University of Evansville.
