College to Hold Opening for Senior Art Exhibition Tuesday Evening

Art
Show Featuring Works by Tiffany Barr and Linden Ayoki An exhibit featuring works by senior art students Tiffany Barr and Linden Ayoki will be held in Wilmington College’s Harcum Art Gallery April 26 through May 7. An opening reception honoring the artists is planned for Tuesday (April 27), from 6 to 8 p.m. Normal gallery hours are weekdays, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and by special arrangement made by curator Hal Shunk, professor of art. Barr’s media of expression will include graphite pencils, pen and ink, and ceramics. She said she tends to be “more realistic” in her artwork and admits that a trip to Chicago when she was 20 years old was a turning point in her art career. “It was an exhilarating experience for me and my art, and showed me up close how expressive art can be,” she said, noting she became enamored with works depicting Dia de los Muertos, “Day of the Dead,” and the meaning behind it. “I love how art is used, not just to mourn loss but the celebrate that the (deceased) people made a mark on the Earth,” Barr said. “That is what I want to do with my artwork. I want to show that it’s okay to feel loss and morn, but also be happy and celebrate that (the deceased) left such an impact on your life and it’s helped to make you the person you are today.” Ayoki said his love for art eventually expanded his media of interest to include: pastel, clay, painting, etching and drawing. “My art teacher in high school always seemed to like my work, so I ran with it,” he said, noting his preferred medium now is acrylic paint. “I love the way I can control paint with my brush,” he added, noting he considers himself a nonobjective and abstract artist. “My hope is that, when you look at my art, you’re having fun and understanding what I’m doing with my work.”
