Middle school students have hands-on learning opportunities through collecting and learning to identify organisms from local waterways during Wilmington College’s weeklong Splash Science Camp from July 22 through 26.

Dr. Russell Kincaid, professor of mathematics and physics at WC, is coordinating the experience, which lasts from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily. When not wading in creeks collecting macroinvertebrates and other organisms for examination, the camp will be held at WC’s Center for the Sciences and Agriculture.

Kincaid noted the camp participants will “collect and learn to identify local creek organisms in a fun and scientific way.” The camp is associated with WC’s WAVE (Water Assessment and Vitality Enhancement) program in which WC science students have been collecting water samples and macroinvertebrates with subsequent laboratory data analysis to monitor and mitigate pollution in local waterways.

The registration fee covers water shoes, lunch daily and a T-shirt. Scholarships are available. Here is the link to registration: https://forms.office.com/r/rVGhkW87xz.
