Trips Going to England and Scotland, and London, Paris and Italy
With Spring Break 2018 now in the rearview mirror, it’s not too early to consider a study abroad opportunity over Wilmington College’s Spring Break in 2019.
Two WC-initiated tours will be traveling to Europe, both of which are through EF (Education First) College Tours, a company the College has used for many years. They are especially geared for college students and academic credit is available. Spring break 2019 will be in mid-March.

One tour will be focused on England and Scotland while another will offer highlights of London, Paris and Italy.
The eight-day England/Scotland trip, which will have its share of bagpipes, kilts, double-decker buses and fish-and-chips, features several days in Edinburgh, Scotland, including sites in the historic city that has been recognized as Scotland’s capital since the 15th century. The group will visit Edinburgh Castle and have an opportunity for an excursion to the University of St. Andrews.
After several days, the group will travel by train to London, where they will take a guided tour of the great capital, seeing such popular attractions as Big Ben, Parliament, Piccadilly Circus, St. Paul’s Cathedral and the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace, in addition to the historic museums of the Tower of London. Also, there is an opportunity to visit Windsor Castle and Oxford University.
The tour is under the direction of veteran trip leaders, WC’s Dr. James FitzSimmons, professor of mathematics, and Dr. Angela Mitchell, associate professor of business administration. A full-time tour director will join the group upon their landing in Edinburgh and stay with them throughout their London departure. Expert tour guides are assigned at various points of interest.
The England/Scotland trip is open to WC students, faculty/staff, alumni, parents and interested persons from the community. Currently, early registration discounts are available: $200 if registered by the end of March, $150 if one has traveled with EF on a previous trip, and $50 for those that engaged in a 2018 EF tour. The tour dates are March 9 through 16.

Dr. Marta Wilkinson, associate professor of English, is leading an EF College Tour trip to London, Paris and Italy.
Their excursion begins upon landing in London, where they will see such sites as Trafalgar Square, Covent Garden, Big Ben and Parliament, and St. Paul’s Cathedral, as well as the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace, Picadilly Circus, Hyde Park and Windsor Castle.
After two days in London, they will board a Eurostar train through the “Chunnel” en route to Paris. There, over two days, the group will tour the Latin Quarter, Notre Dame Cathedral and other such popular attractions as the Champs-Elysees, Arc de Triomphe, Eiffel Tower and Louvre Museum. Travelers will have an opportunity to make the short trip to nearby Versailles and tour Louis XIV’s famous palace.
A night train will transport the group to Florence, Italy, the capital of the Renaissance. After a day in Florence, they will travel to Assisi to see the famous Basilica of St. Francis before arriving in Rome that evening.
Sightseeing in the Eternal City includes Vatican City and St. Peter’s Basilica and Sistine Chapel, along with the Roman Forum, Colosseum, Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain and Piazza Navona.
A full-time tour director will join the group upon their landing in London and stay with them throughout their departure home from Rome. Expert tour guides are assigned at various points of interest.
Similar early registration discounts as offered for the England/Scotland trip also are available for this tour, which is open to WC students, faculty/staff, alumni and parents. For more information, contact Wilkinson at 937.481.2451 or via email at marta_wilkinson@wilmington.edu.
