Wilmington College is planting roots for a greener future. The College is holding its 14th annual Earth Day | Ag Day on April 22, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., on Collett Mall near the Center for the Sciences and Agriculture. Sponsored by WC’s Collegiate Farm Bureau chapter, it’s a day for the campus to share the connection between the Earth and agriculture.
Planting roots for a greener future includes protecting and enhancing the environment, agriculture and sustainability while looking ahead to realize prosperous futures for all. Participants are encouraged to include interactive displays or activities that celebrate agriculture, the outdoors and natural spaces.
One hundred trees donated by the Clinton Soil and Water Conservation District (CSWCD) will be distributed, some of which will be planted as a windbreak at the College Farm. Since 2016, the College has collaborated with the CSWCD to distribute 840 trees. The Aggie Wagon might be making trips back and forth to the farm for participants to plant trees. Also planned are food trucks, games, a farm animal petting zoo, hay bale tossing and lots of fun.
President Corey Cockerill said, “Our Earth Day celebration on campus is always a highlight of my spring semester. I love to see the campus and greater community come together.” She lauded the partnership with the Soil and Water Conservation District. “What started as a small project has blossomed into something significant — it’s like a small forest. We plan to give another 100 trees away this Earth Day.”
Collegiate Farm Bureau invites both the campus and members of the greater Wilmington community to attend this event as the College celebrates a greener future for the planet.
