Programming to Focus on Carbon Reduction Strategies
Wilmington College will offer a day of programming in observance of the 50th annual Earth Day April 23 using the theme “DISCO2VERY.”
The College’s communication arts class, Event Coordination and Logistics, is planning the daylong event with a focus on carbon reduction strategies, and a special emphasis on its food, environmental and agricultural applications.
The tentative schedule kicks off with The DISCO2VERY Playground from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. A tent on the mall will be filled with various displays, demonstrations and learning opportunities related to carbon footprint reduction. Students involved with Omicron Delta Kappa and Amnesty International will staff the activities.
From 1 to 3 p.m., the CO2LLABORATION Station will be open, also under the tent. Demonstrations offered by the Ohio Soybean Council interns will include “Living Necklaces” and a soy diesel lab. The CARBON CYCLE Bike Rally will follow, from 3 to 4 p.m., at which members of the campus community can participate in bicycle laps around the campus mall as they learn about the carbon cycle in exchange for ECO2 prizes.
At 4:30 p.m., a CO2NVERSATIONS panel discussion is planned in the McCoy Room, followed from 6 to 7:15 p.m., by the CO2MMUNITY Hunger Banquet hosted by the WC Collegiate Farm Bureau in Pyle Center C&D. Formal Earth Day activities will culminate at 7:30 p.m. with CO2NTEXT, an occasion-appropriate film, Before the Flood, scheduled for either Heiland Theatre or, weather-permitting, Collett Mall.
