Acclaimed Pianist Sun Min Kim to Perform on Murphy Theatre's New Grand Piano
Wilmington College is sponsoring a recital featuring acclaimed South Korean pianist Dr. Sun Min Kim Nov. 12, at 7:30 p.m., at the historic Murphy Theatre in downtown Wilmington.

The event will premiere, in a concert setting, the Murphy’s new grand piano. Tickets are $12 for the general public and free of charge for students with valid school/college identification.
Kim serves as coordinator of keyboard studies and visiting assistant professor of music at Denison University. He made his début with the Ulsam Philharmonic Orchestra in South Korea, at age 13, performing “Grieg’s Piano Concerto.”
He has been a prizewinner of national and international piano competitions. In 2008, the professional music fraternity, Mu Phi Epsilon, awarded him the Sterling Achievement Award, the highest honor conferred upon its collegiate members.
Kim has performed at Carnegie Hall and other prestigious venues across the United States and abroad. Also, he has frequently performed solo and chamber music festivals, including the Aspen Music Festival, Banff Center, Brevard Music Center and École Redaille in Belgium.
He also is an active lecturer, competition juror and master class presenter, and his current and former students have been prizewinners of national and international competitions.
Kim completed his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in piano performance and literature, with a minor in collaborative piano, at the Eastman School of Music. He previously taught at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Oklahoma State University and the University of Rochester.
Kim’s recital program will feature: “Chaconne in G Major HWV 435” by George Frideric Handel (1685-1759) and “Piano Sonata in F Major K.533/494” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791), Allegro, Andante and Rondo: Allegretto. Following an intermission, the performance will continue with “Dream from Pulse” by Ching-chu Hu (b.1969), Prélude, fugue, et variation Op. 18 by César Franck (1822-1890) and “Danzas Argentinas Op.2” by Alberto Ginastera (1916-1983), Danza del viejo boyero, Danza de la moza donosa and Danza del gaucho matrero.
