Seminars Range from Gardening and Religion to History, Art and Medicine
Registration begins Feb. 15 for spring term courses in Wilmington College’s continuing education program designed for the 40-plus crowd known as the Wilmington Institute for Lifelong Learning (WILL).
WILL is in its seventh year of providing an “authentic educational opportunity” for older persons with a will to continue learning,” according to director Margaret Guentert, a retired faculty member at WC who founded and has coordinated the program since its inception.
“The Wilmington Institute for Lifelong Learning fulfills a need as an educational outlet for motivated persons wishing to learn and be challenged,” she said.
For the spring 2017 term, WILL’s catalog features 17 skill-learning and knowledge-expanding seminars designed to introduce students to new worlds. They vary in class frequency and duration but generally will meet weekly from March 13 through May 6. Registration runs through March 10, but class size for some courses is limited and may be full prior to this date.
The cost is $60 for the first seminar this term with the second one free of charge and $30 for each subsequent one. Some persons may qualify for financial aid. Seminars meet on campus and at other various locations.
The slate of courses for the spring term encompasses a number of topics, including gardening, religion, history, art, literature, medicine and travel.
Seminars include: Yoga, Knitting 101, The Crusades, Container Gardening, Furniture Restoration, Close and Controversial Calls: The Presidential Election Calls that Tested the Republic, Beginning Jewelry Design, Surveying Art Around Cincinnati, Wood Carving, A Study of Lincoln Artifacts, Some Help with Finance: Your Financial Issues in 2017, Medicare 101, Mankind’s Alteration of Our Global Environment.
