Hands-On in the Studio

Our intimate, hands-on course of study focuses on the basics of a sound art education. Our students learn, through practical experience, how to use the tools, mediums and techniques of artists. Although this minor prepares students to become practitioners of the visual arts and graduate students, studying art allows all students to acquire the knowledge necessary to create a personal response to a variety of issues. Students are encouraged to develop a personal statement within their work while they produce projects that range from creating paintings to sculptures.

Become familiar with centuries-old techniques and media in the best possible way, hands-on in our studios. You’ll enjoy the instruction of our faculty out at the Art Dept., located on the Academic Farm – natural inspiration and lighting! Explore ceramics, painting, sculpting, printmaking and painting, then return to main campus to experience exhibitions in Harcum Art Gallery and art history lectures.

The primary mission of the Harcum Art Gallery is to educate. We seek to encourage creativity and appreciation in the visual arts through exhibition, outreach and awareness. Our role is to foster a greater sense of student inspiration and introduce the public to traditional and contemporary art methods. The Harcum Art Gallery looks to encourage art excellence through our programs, exhibitions and events. By creating an art experience, this gallery hopes to broaden the minds and add cultural enrichment to all who enter.

In addition to featuring national and regional exhibitions, we also display student shows at the end of each semester.
